Before Noble MC, there was only me and The Classic Pack.
I spent the last 6 years maintaining a modpack that continuously updated Tekkit to later versions of Minecraft. Technic would eventually catch up to each version, such as 1.6.4 and 1.7.10 but have also now reached 1.12.2.
As soon as Tekkit 2 was announced, I knew that having a truly official Tekkit server would be a fun idea - but didn't really know what to do. I had a community based solely around a single modpack, and whilst I had dabbled in running other servers (Such as custom modpacks made by myself, a Deathban Vanilla server and the likes of Terraria on occasion), it didn't make much sense to produce separate Discord Servers for different projects.
So without further ado, I present to you - Noble MC.
The dream is an ambitious one, but one that we'll be giving our best shot at!
After deliberating with Lenna and KrazyCrash - the managers of The Classic Pack community, we came to the decision to produce a small server network comprised of The Classic Pack, Tekkit 2 and later an unnamed new modpack and possibly a SkyFactory, Vanilla and Tekkit Classic server.
Why consider SkyFactory? Well, SkyFactory and me have history! SkyFactory made The Classic Pack worth maintaining..
I personally have roots in SkyFactory - having once run the most successful SkyFactory and Agrarian Skies network, netting in $40K in sales to a duo of owners who never reciprocated the time and effort I spent in growing their community. I earned around $100 from this, in the form of the odd steam game gift, with continuous promises of getting my slice of the pie I baked. During my time at that network, I produced The Classic Pack (under a different name back then) and had generated a further $800 in sales within a month. This was a project that I was 100% responsible for, every update, every mod choice, every bug fix and every support ticket. The server was hosted by the network I used to maintain, and at that time I was finally in the position to self host the modpack and begin to receive what I had personally earned.
I moved all of the files to my own host and opened my own server, informing the network owners of my choice and deleting the files that had been moved from the old server. The owners of that network were extremely unhappy with this - they had suddenly lost a passive source of income, as all they had to do was host the files and take all of the profit - doing absolutely nothing. That network did then restore the server files from a host backup and tried to cause some damage. I promptly put this behind me, having lost access to the network I had grown for many years, and continued at it alone. I was the sole 'Developer' of their network servers, and I had intended to continue to maintain it on the side - but I was removed from all platforms related to that network and my 'position' was given to another user. That network did not last very long after my departure.
The modpack grew and grew, from 35 Discord members to >4000. From a small side project for friend, to a top Technic Modpack. This paid for my University tuition fees and expenses, which propelled me into my dream field to which I am in today!
This is a short story of how it began, that I have only rarely shared with a few individuals, and it feels good to finally write it down even if it lacks most of the details and events that happened along the way.
I hope that Noble MC, The Classic Pack and all other endeavours that I share with the community continue to bring purpose to my free time and continue to provide a platform for others to relax and explore what Modded Minecraft and other small games have to offer!
